Slow Food New Orleans has formed a partnership with the New Orleans Musicians Assistance Foundation (http://www.nomaf.org). The innovative NOMAF provides free medical, health and wellness services to New Orleans musicians. The NOMAF’s wellness program is entitled “Death by Lifestyle”. Slow Food New Orleans and NOMAF will host the inaugural “Death by Lifestyle Supper Bowl” on Monday October 1 at the Mid-City Lanes Rock n Bowl (http://www.rocknbowl.com), a New Orleans landmark entertainment venue. Slow Food New Orleans will sponsor slow food and NOMAF will sponsor the music. Rock n Bowl is the perfect venue for this event as they source grass fed beef from their own farm and grow vegetables in the lot next door. The hope is that the Monday Supper Bowl will become a monthly event that allows musicians, restauranteur and growers to come together with the public on what is traditionally an off-night in all three industries.
SF-NOLA plans to use funds raised to initiate its own research and educational programs to advance the Slow Food mission of Good, Clean and Fair Food.
Congratulations on restarting the local chapter! New Orleans has been slow long before recognized it a good thing. Great to read about the experience at Terra Madre. I still recount lessons learned during my 2008 attendance.
